No need to wait for Halloween to be scared silly when you’re looking for things to do in Marietta. The folks at Ghosts of Marietta offer tours up and down the streets of this southern town delighting tourists and locals alike with stories of spooky happenings.

The Tours

If you frighten easily, this may not be for you. A walk through a cemetery and possible glimpses of eerie goings-on are included in some of the tours. The storytelling could likely make you feel that you are part of the events and that the occurrences could happen again at any time with you right in their midst.

Lanterns will light the way on the 90-minute walking tour. You could be joined by spirits of days gone by, but you never know from each tour to the next. Marietta Square may seem quaint during the day, but when you walk through it at night you have to be ready for anything.

The trolley tour also lasts approximately 90 minutes. You will visit several cemeteries and historic homes in beautiful Marietta. Flashlights will be used instead of lanterns on this tour but only if needed. Be prepared for a short two-block walk.

No kids allowed on the pub crawl tour. You may be witness to more bawdy stories and the spirits’ behavior could surprise you more than on the other tours. Alcohol is allowed but attendees are asked to use good judgment when imbibing.

Fall is especially ripe for a spooky time with Ghosts of Marietta. Halloween tours include visiting the Root House Museum where you will learn about death and funeral habits and superstitions of days of long ago. Some ghostly visitors may still be in mourning as you walk through the museum.

The Guides

The families of some of the guides have been in the area for generations. Not only can they tell a spooky story that will make you shiver with fear, but some of them also have personally experienced events you will hear about. Ghost stories will take on a whole new meaning when told by Michelle or one of the other guides as you tremble at the thought of what you hear.

You may get to spend time with Michelle who investigates and researches real-life paranormal activity. She is a psychic in a family with four generations of the same ability. Lindsey’s family first came to Marietta more than 150 years ago. You can be sure that some of the haunting stories she will tell came from her family members or others close to them.
