Developed in the 1930s, Kennesaw, GA has been home to numerous historical events. It is particularly well known for its locomotive history and history related to the Civil War. Walking down the brick roads downtown Kennesaw, you will feel the history flowing through the veins of the town. Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

Trains were extremely important to the war. Without trains, armies would struggle to receive the necessary supplies to keep the soldiers armed, fed, and clothed. Knowing this, spies from the Union Army stole the famous locomotive named “The General” in order to disrupt the Confederate Army's transportation lines. The spies didn't make it out of Georgia before they ran out of supplies themselves. They abandoned “The General”, which is now proudly on display at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History as one of the main permanent exhibits.

The Three permanent exhibits include:

• Glover Machine Works: Casting a New South
  

Outside of these three permanent exhibits, the museum houses rotating exhibits, including Smithsonian exhibits.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Stand on the very ground where Confederate Soldiers held off Union advances. Informational posters and the museum can give you information, but there are also guided tours that can teach you even more. When you are done taking in the battle that took place, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the park and mountain. There's even a shuttle bus that can take you to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view. Otherwise, you can walk up the mountain for some good exercise.

Smith-Gilbert Gardens

Georgia is a lush, beautiful area blessed with flowers. Both local and exotic flowers are brought in for everybody to see at the Smith-Gilbert Gardens. However, that's not all the location has to offer. There is also plenty of art on display, both sculptures and paintings. Finally, you can learn about the history of the small town at the Butler Home.
